As President and Chief Executive Officer, Mark Segal provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of The Habitat Company and its affiliates.
Founded in 1971, The Habitat Company is a full-service multi-family real estate company, committed to the highest standards in management, service and development. The Habitat Company has developed more than 17,000 rental and condominium units and currently manages over $2 billion of assets comprised of more than 20,000 residential units in five states consisting of market rate, affordable, student and public housing units.
Mark Segal has been with The Habitat Company since 2002, serving as President and Chief Executive Officer since January, 2009. He previously served as Habitat's Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel, becoming one of its Managing Directors in 2005. Prior to that time, Mark practiced law with private law firms in Chicago, specializing in the areas of corporate law and real estate.
Mark is a member of the Board of Trustees and a past President of Chicago Sinai Congregation. Mark is a member of the Board of Directors of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and its Executive Committee and is the Chair of its Government Relations Committee. Mark is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Chicago/Upper Midwest Region of the Anti-Defamation League. He is also a member of the Chicago Architecture Foundation, National Apartment Association, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, National Leased Housing Association, National Multi Housing Council and Urban Land Institute.
Mark received a JD degree from Northwestern University School of Law and an MM degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He also received a BA degree from Claremont McKenna College, cum laude, where he majored in political science.
