Charlton Hamer

Charlton Hamer is the Senior Vice President of Habitat Affordable Group, where he provides strategic leadership and comprehensive oversight for all affordable housing clients. With over 30 years of experience in real estate, Charlton has excelled in development, asset management, property operations, economic development, and municipal planning.

Throughout his career, Charlton has held key roles at respected firms such as Redstone Urban Properties, LLC, VESTA Corporation, and Shore Area Community Development Corporation. He has been instrumental in transactions exceeding $400 million across various asset classes.

Under Charlton's leadership, Habitat's affordable housing portfolio boasts over 9,000 strategically located units across multiple cities. His expertise spans diverse property types, including condominiums, market-rate rentals, LIHTC housing, industrial, retail, and mixed-income communities. Charlton's focus on top-tier operations drives continued success in the affordable housing market.

Charlton actively contributes to the real estate landscape through his involvement in organizations such as the Urban Land Institute, the American Planning Association, the Real Estate Executive Council, and the University of Illinois Alumni Association. He serves on the advisory board for the Roosevelt University Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate, the Alumni Strategy Council for the University of Illinois Department of Urban and Regional Planning, and as a board member for the Illinois Housing Council. Previously, he served as the chairman of the Bridgeport, Connecticut, Redevelopment Agency.

Charlton holds a Master of Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He is a licensed real estate broker in New York, underscoring his commitment to the field.
