The Habitat Company is pleased to share an important step forward in the revitalization of Highland Park’s former Solo Cup manufacturing site. The City of Highland Park has granted initial approval for our proposed townhome development, marking meaningful progress toward reactivating a long-vacant property and delivering much-needed housing to the North Shore.

As reported by Crain’s Chicago Business, the proposed plan includes a thoughtfully designed townhome community that balances density, livability, and neighborhood character. The project is envisioned to transform the underutilized site into a vibrant residential neighborhood while aligning with the city’s long-term planning and housing goals.

Our proposal reflects Habitat’s commitment to context-sensitive development—creating homes that integrate seamlessly with their surroundings while expanding housing options for families, professionals, and downsizing residents alike. The plan emphasizes walkability, green space, and architectural design that complements the existing fabric of Highland Park.

This initial approval represents the result of close collaboration with city leadership, planning staff, and community stakeholders. We look forward to continuing this dialogue as the project advances through the next phases of review.

At Habitat, we believe redevelopment projects like this are opportunities to strengthen communities, reimagine underused land, and invest in long-term neighborhood vitality. We’re excited to continue working alongside the City of Highland Park to bring this vision to life.

Stay tuned for future updates as the project progresses.
