Remembering David "Dave" Barnhart

It is with very heavy hearts that we share our friend and colleague, David “Dave” Barnhart, passed away on December 22, 2022. Dave was a very bright light around our Chicago Regional Office and throughout our condo communities, as well as every event he attended. As Dave was such an integral part of our Habitat family, we gathered yesterday to celebrate his life and share stories and memories of moments that were just so “Dave”. His passing has touched our hearts and our lives, and he will be missed for more reasons than we can list. We are all fortunate to have been a part of Dave’s journey.

There are some who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they have gone, the light remains.

David was my brother. Although estranged from his family, I hated him for things as much as I loved him for much more. He touched so many lives his entire life. He lived large and was many people's "first". First love, first adult social situation, he loved to have fun, and when he celebrated, he celebrated large and with class.

I love the quote There are some who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they have gone, the light remains.

Some of the best moments of my life were with your brother. I remember the first time I saw him. It was at a party in Shadyside from across the room. He had a certain glow; a physical attraction about him that drew you toward his personna. It was th…
