Giving back to the community has been a part of Habitat’s DNA from the very beginning. We believe that being engaged in the communities we’re in is a fundamental part of who Habitat is as a company. Since our founding, through philanthropic partnerships, property initiatives, and community development projects, we have supported and uplifted those in need. Whether we’re doing a clothing drive at a property, or providing housing options and job opportunities for disinvested communities, at Habitat we have always been, and will always be, committed to giving back to the communities we call home.

National Day of Service
National Day of Service is our flagship day of giving back. All team members, from our leadership to our property team members, unite under our mantra to truly do more together. As stewards of all our communities, we partner with organizations that allow us to have the greatest impact on communities.
Habitat has proudly supported the Cara Collective since 2009. A transformative program, Cara provides second chances to people affected by hard times to help them break the cycle. By providing job training and education through an intensive program, Habitat and Cara provide students career opportunities — many within Habitat—ultimately changing their mind and spirit.

True to our mission to provide quality housing and keep families safe, we formed Generations Housing Initiative (GHI) with the goal of helping seniors live healthy, fulfilling lives by providing high-quality, affordable housing environments. As GHI’s largest financial supporter, we provide vital services to low-income residents across the Chicagoland area.
Habitat Cares About the Whole You (Habitat Cares)
Habitat Cares is an initiative aimed at ensuring our residents have everything they need to be satisfied in their home. Perks included in the Habitat Cares program include local merchant discounts on goods & services, financial coaching, and health and wellness planning. Additionally, we have placed comment cards throughout our participating communities’ lobbies and throughout the buildings to help us stay connected and have a clear understanding of our residents’ needs and priorities. Habitat Cares also provides our residents with our “Moving Made Easy” service – one hour of free moving assistance from our 4-star professional maintenance teams! At Habitat, we make living easy – because it should be.
